You've Got To Be Joking Me,

For the record, I am completely against the forced trafficking of human beings for any purposes. For the record, I mildly lean toward sex-worker rights and unions as well as regulation, taxation, and conceivable controlled legalization of prostitution. For the record, I have never availed myself of the purposes of a prostitute - merely because I'm too proud and I have a hard time lying to myself into believing that such a woman would have interest in myself when I have to pay for her company.

That and the oldman has a slightly paranoia about sexually transmitted diseases.

However this is just plain silly.

U.S. troops stationed overseas could face a court martial for patronizing prostitutes under a new regulation drafted by the Pentagon.

The move is part of a Defense Department effort to lessen the possibility that troops will contribute to human trafficking in areas near their overseas bases by seeking the services of women forced into prostitution.

Gen. Leon LaPorte, commander of the 37,000 U.S. troops in South Korea, said another initiative started on the peninsula has been to “make on-base military life a more desirable experience, and attempt to diminish the seductive appeal of many of the less wholesome off-duty pursuits.”

Additional recreational opportunities
That effort includes offering expanded evening and weekend education programs, band concerts, late-night sports leagues and expanded chaplains’ activities.

From a pragmatic view, keeping soldiers on extended deployment in foreign countries and completely cutting off access to sexual relief is a bonehead move. They must really be planning a draft, because it seems every single move they make is designed to make military service more miserable. The term hookers infamously came from the "camp followers" of General Hooker in the Civil War.

If this is what Rumsfeld and his boys are spending their time on instead of working on Iraq, then they A) have way too much time on their hands and B) really need to be removed from office badly. I'm not championing the exploitation of women, but I would suggest that more important issues to the national interest loom for Pentagon thinkers to be earning their salary working on than this one.

Come on; you know this better than me, this is most likely a cheap electoral stunt being used to convince the moralists that Bush's "I Care" message is realistic and that little Johnny will be nice and safe when he gets drafted.... sorry for my cynicism to warp through here.

Yes, I understand it plays to public show-morality. The problem is that in practice, depriving large numbers of men of sexual opportunities of the hetrosexual kind and giving them guns is a prescription not for morality but for war crimes.

Really, you don't think that turning the US Military into the modern Knights-Templar is a good idea? Pure blade of holy zeal and all that? We are, after all, in the midst of a crusade.

The Knights Templar were a bunch of whoring raping ethnic cleansing man sluts, precisely because of their so-called public morality. A little morality is a very good thing, and more is generally advisable, but too much and it is certainly fatal.

With the caveat that one should not attribute to malice what can be attributed to incompetence, is it not a desired side effect that a bit more sexual frustration makes these guys into more ruthless fighting machines?

When I was in the military, leave and vacation approvals were used as a management tool, in a quid-pro-quo leave-for-sycophancy way. Going AWOL was very risky due to frequent military police patrolling around pubs, liquor stores, and other popular places in the surrounding area. But then we had a draft and almost all conscripts were in that joint against their will.

I have no doubt that the people who were more worried about calico cats and gigantic stone tits are dead serious about this.

If, and it's a big 'if,' this is enforceable, then military life is going to start looking a lot like 'Oz.'

Feh. Most of what we think we know about the Templars' personal habits was dreamt up by Philip IV's thugs in late 1307 to justify their liquidation. The Templars were the first gentile bankers in Europe (post-Empire) and had become a soft target.

Oddly enough, most of that propaganda was recycled from a similar assault on Boniface VIII, kinda like Prohibition and late 30's drug laws. People are stupid.

I'm against this, too, even if it is show-morality. Better killing machines or not, the incidence of sexual assault in the military is already egregiously high. When these men have no off-base sexual outlets, how will it change the working conditions of their female comrades? I'm not trying to make a blanket indictment, but the abuse is already there in the presence of these outlets; I shudder to think what it would be like without.

That problem would not arise if they drafted the girls too.

Look the women in the Army are already getting raped in rather staggering numbers if certain reports are credible and adding more of them will make matters worse.

Also a lot of these guys don't want girl friends, they just want to screw. Heck even the married ones do when they get shore leave.

Here's a little story about this.
At one time when a Marine or sailor died overseas they immediatley shipped all his personal belongings back home without looking too closely at the photos. Now when the widow gets her husband's personal effects guess what she finds? Photos of her husband with a couple of gals from Bangkok or the Phillipines in sexual positions. Imagine the outcry and grief this causes the widow when she sees her husband cheating on her.

What the CO and SNCOIC do now is to sanitize the dead Marine's or sailors personal belongings beforing sending them stateside. This is how prevelent whoring is.

Rodger, yes, soldiers use a whole lot of prostitution. If they don't get enough chance to spend time with potential girlfriends, what would you expect?

And frequency of estimated rapes in the military are only a little higher than estimated rape in our poorer communities. It's hard to be sure how much there is since in both cases the general belief is that the large majority of rapes don't get reported. If more rapes are reported in the military that may indicate more faith on the women's part that something of value might happen if they report.

Pregnancy rates among women in the armed services have usually been in the 15%-18%/year range when they occasionally get reported. If that held true for draftees across the board, a universal draft would lead to demographic changes. If all the white middle-class women got drafted at 18 and a third of them were pregnant before they were 20, that would be different.

Let us look at the bigger picture; the governments of the western world want to "control" their people outside of their own country!!!

Example: Several years ago, a hotel burned down in Thailand, people were killed in the fire. I was contacted by a law office from America. They were asking if there was an American owner, partner or victem involved in/with the hotel.

Example: back in the mid 1950's the government pasted the tax law that required All Americans working overseas and not living in America to pay Federal income tax on their overseas income.

There are other examples, like Cuba, but the game plan is for the government to control Americans all over the world.
